Falling

Blast from the past ; I reach to wipe a speck from my screen, and smear it all over. Smearing, wiping, clearing, obscuring.

Am I become the pivot upon which the world revolves? Around me all is in flux, yet I remain, immutably bored.

How then, to step from the safe centre into the eddying rush of change? A brave plunge? A high-dive into the alive?

The lilliputian ropes that bind me can be broken easily enough, but I fear that first elastic ping, the tang like a whip-crack on sunburnt skin.

With a snuffle, I muffle the speakers and set the player on shuffle ; who pops up but Ella Fitzgerald : Somethings Gotta Give.

Baby doll, ain’t that the truth.

  1. hi, i am waiting for your new post…are you still here?

  2. I’m still here, and there. It’s nice to know someone is actually interested. Gimme a day or too…busy weekend.x
(link up to your site, if you’ve got one.)

  3. Hi,
    my blog is here: http://thoughtsastheycome.wordpress.com/
I thought that it would show my blog url in the comment section on your admin dashboard..but I guess not..

Anyway, you write interesting posts..thought provoking ones. And I am all for that. πŸ™‚

  4. Oh one more thing: when I read that you are “bored” I was reminded of the book I recently read: Boredom by Alberto Moravia (great book by the way, but I am not here to promote the book just to be clear :)). You are not a middle aged man who is disconnected from the external world, therefore feeling boredom, are you? πŸ™‚

  5. “A middle aged man who is disconnected from the external world, therefore feeling boredom”…hmmm…how old is middle age these days? I must be close.
Sounds like me though, I’ve been having a mid-life crisis since I was 17. πŸ™‚

  6. haha!
middle age would be whatever you make your middle age to be…for you apparently it was since 17. πŸ™‚ I think I can top that though…

  7. “I’m still here, and there. It’s nice to know someone is actually interested.”
Apparently, your midlife crisis comes with an insurmountable pile of self pity.
Nice work, I guess I’ll have to come online more often, rearrange my whole schedule and what not….I’m practically in tears here, my heart is broken by guilt….
ok, not really but “The lilliputian ropes” deserves a trophy.

  8. “Apparently, your midlife crisis comes with an insurmountable pile of self pity.”
    Of course ! That’s the fun of a mid-lifer !
But don’t worry, I don’t take things too seriously, least of all myself. Tomorrow I’ll dribble some more mind-cack on this site. Wish I could up load music though, I’m making some great tunes at the moment…too stingy to pay for my own webspace though.

  9. A multitudinous speck that attacks the glass glare of monitor light, and despairs of never finding an ovum to wed?

  10. Filthy swineherd!

    [probably correct though]
